Stellenbosch v Maritzburg United
Stellenbosch and Maritzburg United clash in the Absa Premiership on Sunday, with both teams still searching for their first win of the season.
Newly-promoted Stellenbosch kicked off their stay in the South African top flight with a goalless draw at Chippa United, but then went down 1-0 to local rivals Cape Town City the following week.
As for Maritzburg, who only narrowly avoided relegation from the Premiership last season, their new campaign started with a 1-0 loss at Golden Arrows, followed by a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park.
That means that both sides have only earned one point so far, leaving them hovering just above the relegation zone at this early stage of the season.
Stellenbosch are also still searching for their first goal in the top flight, and star striker Iqraam Rayners, who won the National First Division golden boot award last season after scoring 19 goals, admits it's been a steep learning curve making the step up to the Absa Premiership.
"Ja for me it's like a bit difficult finding my feet in the PSL," Rayners told KickOff.com.
"But I hope soon I'm getting there, maybe after five games, maybe before that. But I'm ready for the challenge in the PSL. Because it's not like in the NFD where the defenders like to come up high to the halfway line, most of the PSL defenders are defending deep. That's what makes stuff difficult for us, for me."
As for Maritzburg, coach Eric Tinkler will be hoping striker Clive Augusto hits the ground running at his new club after his signing was completed earlier this week.
Augusto scored 14 goals in 18 games for title-chasing Chicken Inn in Zimbabwe’s Premier League last season, and Black Leopards and Golden Arrows were also said to be interested in acquiring his services, suggesting he could be a valuable addition for Maritzburg as they looked to turn their form around.
The match kicks off at 3pm at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
