Polokwane City 0-0 Highlands Park

Highlands Park and Polokwane City played out to a 0-0 draw in Saturday's MTN8 first leg semi-final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Pietersburg.

It was a relatively slow start to the contest for both teams though Highlands were threatening at times with high balls into the area which gave Mwenya Chibwe some problems in goal.

Owen Da Gama's men were bombarding the penalty area with balls into the danger zone as Ryan Rae's long throws were starting to cause a number of problems.

Soon after Mothobi Mvala squandered a glorious chance as he missed a free header from 10 yards out.

Rise and Shine slowly improved as the first stanza progressed as Puleng Tlolane saw his strike on goal from distance saved by goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni.

The hosts started the second period more positively as Nicolas Motloung found space at the near post before his effort was bravely kept out by Ngobeni through a crowd of bodies.

With time running down, Da Gama brought on Enocent Mkhabela in the place of Luckyboy Mokoena, while Sibusiso Hlubi came on for Lesiba Nku moments not long after.

There were few further chances to speak of as it ended goalless at the end of 90 minutes.

The second leg is set to take place just after the FIFA international break which comes on Tuesday 17 September.
