McCarthy: We played with more determination
Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy was satisfied with the performance of his team despite a goalless draw against Maritzburg United on Friday evening.
The Citizens' mentor feelt his charges showed more determination than in their 2-0 midweek loss to Bidvest Wits, which came off the back of being crowned MTN8 champions.
He admitted that scoring goals remains the biggest problem for his side that is without a win in their last seven Premiership games.
"At least the one thing I can take from today is that my team showed guts, they showed determination and they showed the spirit that I know we have," McCarthy told SuperSport.
"Not that team that pitched up against Wits, so I'm very happy that they were able to turn it around. I think it was three points lost for us.
"Our game plan was tactically spot on; we did not allow them to play, to grow in the game and we didn't allow them to penetrate like they usually do.
"We restricted them to playing long balls to their strikers and we knew our defenders could deal with that, so we executed that perfectly, but there was no end product. We couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."
