Anas and Mashumba on target as Polokwane dispatch Arrows

Polokwane City had too much firepower for Golden Arrows in Saturday's Absa Premiership clash at Peter Mokaba Stadium, running out comfortable 2-0 winners.

The result sees Rise and Shine leapfrog Supersport United into fifth place on the PSL table, while Arrows remain in 10th place, five points clear of the drop zone and not yet assured of safety.

City started well and were soon enjoying the better of the exchanges. Their early superiority on the pitch resulted in the opening goal after just 13 minutes on the clock as Mohammed Anas found the bottom corner with a powerful strike from outside the area.

Danny Venter nearly equalised with an accurately-taken free-kick, but an outstretched hand from George Chigova came to the home side's rescue.

Arrows brought on Siyabonga Dube for Danny Phiri at half-time in a bid to turn their fortunes around, while City were happy to protect their lead by replacing Anas with Sammy Seabi shortly after the hour-mark.

City coach Jozef Vukusic wasn't content to just sit back, however, and his decision to bring on Charlton Mashumba in the 75th minute would pay off just two minutes later when the Zimbabwean striker doubled Polokwane's advantage.

It was a corner that did the trick, with Bongile Booi rising to meet the ball before directing a downward header into the danger area, where Mashumba was on hand to provide the easy finish.

That proved enough to secure all three points for Rise and Shine, who extend their unbeaten run in the Premiership to five matches.
