Solinas sparing Billiat and Katsande's energy

Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has revealed that he is restricting Khama Billiat and Willard Katsande's playing time in order to conserve their energy.

Katsande has long been a midfield stalwart for Amakhosi, while Billiat has impressed since his surprise transfer from Mamelodi Sundowns in the off-season.

However, Solinas, who himself only joined Chiefs in July, has admitted that he is wary of overworking the Zimbabwean duo.

Although he holds Katsande in high regard, the Italian also trusts George Maluleka and Siphelele Ntshangase to play together in the heart of midfield.

"Katsande is very important in the team. He's a legend for Kaizer Chiefs and I respect Katsande. He is very important for me, very important for the club, very important for his team-mates," Solinas was quoted as saying by KickOff.

"But Katsande doesn't have to play every game. If you checked the midfielders that played, Katsande is number one, but it's not possible [to play him all the time].

"I need to prepare the plan B when Katsande is suspended, when he's tired, when Katsande is injured. So we also need this [plan B]."

He is also wary of relying too heavily on Billiat to carry the team in the absence of the injured Leonardo Castro.

"Khama? No, at this moment we are without Castro," Solinas added.

"I try to reduce the minutes for Billiat. For example I pulled out Billiat against AmaZulu. I pulled Billiat out against Free State Stars... I'm trying you know to rest Billiat.

"But Billiat is very important for us. We're also trying to manage the situation."
