Kerr warned Walusimbi about Kaizer Chiefs
Black Leopards coach Dylan Kerr has revealed he warned former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Godfrey Walusimbi about the pressure of playing for the Glamour Boys.
Walusimbi was released in January by Chiefs after spending around just six months at Naturena, following his arrival from Gor Mahia in Kenya.
As such, Kerr, who coached the defender during their time together at Gor, believes the player was perhaps too hasty to make the move to the Premiership.
Speaking to Kickoff, he said: "Walusimbi was for me a fantastic player, good athlete and [has] energy to go forward and deliver.
"When he left, he left to better himself but he did it all wrong especially as I told him he could not go, resulting in his departure affecting our Confed Cup progress.
"I'm surprised he's been released but the pressure of playing for Chiefs is immense, the pressure to perform daily, you have to be at the best at all times.
"Sometimes players become scapegoats and Ernst [Chiefs coach Middendorp] must have his football reasons, but Waza was very successful at Gor Mahia, and sometimes the grass is not always greener and new pastures don't always work out as in this case."
