Preview: Free State Stars v Baroka FC
Two teams will be trying to salvage their season when Free State Stars host Baroka FC at Goble Park on Wednesday evening.
The hosts are sitting in 13th place on the ABSA Premiership table, just one point above Baroka who are in the relegation playoff zone. And given we are on the back end of the season, three points will go a long way to ensuring either teams safety.
Free State Stars are coming off a 1-1 draw away to Highlands Park. Ea Lla Koto scored early and Highlands equalised late in the opening stanza. But the match took a turn when Stars were reduced to ten men , with Sifiso Mbhele being sent off following a second yellow card, leaving them with ten men for much of the second half.
While Stars were happy to hold on to their point, they cannot afford such errors against lowly Baroka.
Bakgaga have lost four out of their five outings and were poor in their 2-1 loss a the hands of title-contenders Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. Coach Wedson Nyirenda’s charges suffered with just 38% of the ball, lacking the physicality to win ball off the Brazilians.
The introduction of Thandani Ntshumayelo in the second half - his first appearance in Baroka colours - seemed to solidify the midfield and he may well have have done enough to earn a start on Wednesday.
Kickoff is at 1800 at Goble Park in Bloemfontein.
