Da Gama: Etafia is incredible and is doing well

Highlands Park coach Owen Da Gama believes Greg Etafia is in top form after coming out of retirement four years after hanging up his boots.

Etafia has signed for the Lions of the North despite the fact that the club already have Thela Ngobeni, Tapuwa Kapini and Marlin Heugh in the ranks.

Ngobeni recently signed a three-year deal after leaving former club Mamelodi Sundowns where he was starved of game-time behind the likes of Kennedy Mweene and Denis Onyango.

Speaking to Kickoff, Da Gama said: "He has not conceded a goal in pre-season. He has not conceded a goal in friendly games.

"He has been phenomenal. The hunger is still there.

"We have signed him and watch this space. He is there to push Kapini, he is there to push Thela, he is there to push Marlon Heugh. It might sound like a joke but he is incredible and doing well."

Etafia stopped playing after leaving Swallows a few years ago and he thereafter went on to become goalkeeper coach with Baroka.

Nonetheless, the 36-year-old has resumed his playing career and will no doubt hope to see playing time in 2019/20.
