Benni motivating Mthembu to break goal drought
Cape Town City forward Siphelele Mthembu says his coach Benni McCarthy has not put pressure on the him to break his goal drought.
Mthembu has not hit the back of the net in three appearances for the Citizens this season but his general play has been good.
The 32-year-old scored seven goals for City last campaign before he limped off injured against Kaizer Chiefs in January and is has taken time for him to get back to his previous form.
Mthembu is grateful though to be working under a coach who was a former prolific striker himself and understands the dynamic of what part injuries could play.
"As a striker you always want to score goals for the team, when injuries sometimes set you back, you become worried and put pressure on yourself," said Mthembu, according to IOL.
"But when you have a coach who understands such challengers you get motivation and you start to work hard again.
"The coach always pushes us to make scoring a habit in training and he doesn't force us to try hard, he motivates us to become calm, goals will come."
Mthembu is hoping to get help City get a positive result when they take on Supersport United away from home on Saturday.
