Barker: Stellies players ready to 'step up to the plate'
Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker is confident his charges will get their first victory of the Premiership season when they host fellow strugglers Black Leopards on Saturday.
Stellies have yet to taste a victory in five games this campaign with the Cape Winelands club sitting second bottom on the PSL table with two points.
Leopards themselves have not had the best of starts to the league season having only won once and sitting two points ahead of this weekend's opponents.
"I feel good about our chances of beating Leopards," said Barker.
"We've shown improvement in every game and the boys are ready to step up to the plate and deliver a commanding performance on home soil.
"It would be a massive boost to the players' confidence if they were to come out on top knowing the pressure is on them to get that first win under our belt."
Barker will need to find a solution to his team's goal scoring woes as they have only hit the back of the net twice so far, and one of those was an own goal.
Striker Waseem Isaacs got off the mark in a 2-1 defeat against Bloemfontein Celtic last time out.
"Our strikers need to start finding their feet. But It was good for Waseem to have one goal in one start, I thought he had a really good game against Celtic," Barker added.
"He's not an easy striker to play against, he's got size, he's strong, he holds the ball up well, he's aerially good and strong on both feet.
"So he has got all the attributes of being a top-class striker."
