SuperSport United 2-0 Highlands Park

SuperSport United extended their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership to eight games on Friday as they beat Highlands Park 2-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Matsatsantsa made the stronger start and soon took the lead when Teboho Mokoena showed great determination to burst into Highlands' final third before crossing for Thabo Mnyamane to score from close range.

The travelers struggled to create opportunities but finally had a big chance in the 34th minute when Sphiwe Mahlangu dribbled his way into space on the right before crossing for Lindokuhle Mbatha at the far post, but he skewed the header back across goal instead of scoring.

Highlands were dealt a blow before the break as goalkeeper Marlon Heugh had to be replaced due to a groin injury he picked up earlier in the game. Thela Ngobeni came on to mind the visitors' goal.

In the early exchanges of the second half both sides found it difficult to build up play and all too often turned the possession over cheaply.

Just past the hour mark SuperSport were on the attack and it was Jamie Webber who warmed Ngobeni's hands with a low drilled strike from outside the area.

Shortly therafter, the Lions of the North had another terrific opportunity to draw level. A swinging corner kick from Mbatha fell for Mahlangu but he headed over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

The three points were secured for SuperSport in the 72nd minute when substitute Aubrey Modiba pressed the Highlands defence and took possession of the ball in the attacking third before playing it to Bradley Grobler, who curled home the finish with conviction.

Highlands brought on former SuperSport midfielder Reinelwe Letsholonyane in the 79th minute to try and inspire the visitors back into the game with his composed passing, but the hosts kept him quiet and maintained their lead until the final whistle.
