Da Gama backs Mokoena to turn things around at Pirates
Highlands Park manager Owen da Gama believes Rhulani Mokwena can bring success to Orlando Pirates if he is given enough time.
Mokwena has not had the best start to life at Pirates, with the Sea Robbers currently sitting eighth in the Premiership with just 16 points from their opening 12 games.
However, Da Gama is convinced he just needs more time to implement his plans and called on Pirates to have some patience.
"I think Rhulani is a brilliant coach," he said according to KickOff.
"Sometimes when someone becomes a head coach he has to be given chance to implement his style of play. He has to be given time.
"I mean [Kaizer] Chiefs gave Ernst Middendorp time and now he is top of the log. Last year Chiefs were not doing well, let's be honest, but they gave the coach a chance.
"So why not give Rhulani a chance? Give Rhulani a chance and let's see what happens. He needs time, he needs an opportunity to get things right. So I think he is a brilliant coach and I think given time he can take this team to a high level."
Da Ga pointed to their rivals Chiefs and how they backed Ernst Middendorp when they had a tough season and are now seeing success.
"Exactly what Middendorp needed. Chiefs are also a huge team, they didn't even finish up in the top eight but he was given a chance. For me, the only thing is he [Mokwena] must be given the opportunity."
