Cape Town City 0-1 Chippa United

Chippa United stretched their unbeaten run in the Premiership to four games as Augustine Kwem's first-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening.

As expected, the hosts started the match on the front foot and created two good chances in the opening 20 minutes of play, Riyaad Norodien forcing goalkeeper Veli Mothwa into making a good save, before Mark Mayambela tested the Chippa stopped with a shot on the turn.

However, it would be the visiting Chilli Boys who would claim the lead against the run of play in the 22nd minute, Augustine Kwem collecting a neat pass from Thabo Rakhale before turning in the box and firing into the back of the net.

Kwem very nearly added a second goal just after the half-hour mark as he forced Sage Stephens into making a save at his near post.

Chippa continued to press forward as they went in search of a second, and they very nearly got the breakthrough they were looking for on the stroke of half-time, Silas Maziya striking the woodwork from the edge of the area.

There was plenty more action to come after the break, with both teams showing a real willingness to commit numbers in attack.

Thabo Nodada fired over from distance and Thato Mokeke snatched his shot over the bar for the hosts as the Citizens went in search of an equaliser.

Mothwa was eventually called into action again in the 61st minute as he made a routine save to deny Nodada, before Mayambela fired high and wide from outside the area.

City fashioned another good chance in the 69th minute as they earned a free-kick on the edge of the box, but the resulting shot on goal from Craig David was well saved by Mothwa despite a deflection.

And Motwa would prove to be a key player for Chippa in the closing stages as he denied later efforts from Mayambela and David.

Rakhale had two late chances to add his name to the scoresheet but he somehow missed the first shot from close range, before failing to hit the mark in injury time after being teed up by Maziya.

However, those two missed opportunities did not come back to haunt Chippa as they managed to hold on to claim a valuable three points.
