Horoya 2-1 Bidvest Wits
Ten-man Bidvest Wits suffered their third Confederations Cup defeat of the campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Guinean outfit Horoya in Conakry on Sunday.
Wits remain winless and rock-bottom in the group with just two points and their chances of making it to the knockout phases are now mathematically impossible.
Dramane Nikiema fired the hosts in front after just five minutes after sloppy play by Gavin Hunt's men at the back.
Wits had their first decent opportunity in the 11th minute and it fell to Gift Motupa but he failed to keep his good run of goalscoring form going as he shot straight at the Horoya goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
Deon Hotto pulled the visitors level in the 21st minute. The Namibian wing-back curled a left-footed shot off the surface and into the far corner of the net.
But soon afterwards the Clever Boys were reduced to 10 men when Lehlohonolo Nonyane was shown a straight red.
Boniface Haba fired the home side back in front on the hour mark,
Horoya then won a penalty in the 86th minute but Nikiema fired wide from the spot and missed an opportunity to make it 3-1.
Despite that let-off, Wits could not find a response and will be keen for this tournament to come to an end.
