Lorch: I was confident of Bafana call-up
Thembinkosi Lorch has revealed that although his Bafana Bafana call-up happened without warning, he was always quietly confident his chance would come.
Lorch was about to walk onto the Orlando Pirates training ground when Bucs team manager Floyd Mbele called to tell him that he had been called up by Stuart Baxter for national team duty.
Along with Thamsanqa Mkhize, Lorch was called into the squad to replace the injured Thapelo Morena and Vincent Pule.
"I just dropped everything and made my way there (to the Bafana camp)," Lorch said, as quoted by the South African Football Association's official website.
"I was not surprised by the call-up though," he revealed. "In fact I was expecting it. I knew that it would come one day and my instincts told me it was around the corner. I have been working really hard and I am glad my work has been rewarded."
The 25-year-old has not had a smooth path to success. After joining Orlando Pirates in 2015, he was loaned out first to Cape Town All Stars and then Chippa United.
"That whole process played a massive part in transforming me into a player that I am today," he said.
"I had to be patient while at the same time continued working hard to increase my fitness levels, and it was not easy. I am looking at ways to continue getting better.
"Assistant coach Rhulani Mokoena [of Orlando Pirates] is one individual I always speak to on and off the pitch. He always reminds me to continue believing in myself and to work hard."
