Middendorp: 'A result we cannot be pleased with'

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp expressed his disappointment after seeing his side play to a 1-1 draw with Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Amakhosi went on to claim the lead through Daniel Cardoso's 53rd-minute penalty and looked to be heading for a narrow win before Thembinkosi Lorch popped up with the equaliser ten minutes from full-time.

Middendorp felt the result was not an accurate reflection of the game, but also admitted he exp3ected "a bit more" from his players on the day.

"Yeah we had a goal and the game was clear to our advantage, we wanted to score the second goal and we had chances, then we were punished," he told SuperSport TV after the match.

"It's definitely a result we cannot be pleased with. I didn't change at half-time, but we changed when we were leading 1-0," he responded.

"We had to bring in (Willard) Katsande and then we kept our structure, it was the same. It was just a change of the young guy (Happy Mashiane) and brought in Philani Zulu, it's just an experience for him at his age," said the coach.

"We saw he was going losing concentration a little bit more, I could see. But what I am thinking is that we had our goalkeeper sitting down and the defender but the referees allowed the game to continue, that is something we are not happy about," he added.

"No, no it was definitely (result) not a reflection of the game, where we are coming from and reflecting now on the changes in the team and with the young players we have introduced, playing against a Champions League team, I expected a bit more, having a goal and drive, then we deserve to win.

"At least with a 2-1 win then we should say we deserved it."
