Mamelodi Sundowns v Bidvest Wits

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to improve on their slow start to the new season when they host Bidvest Wits at Lucas Moripe Stadium in a battle of the Premiership big guns on Sunday.

The defending champions have managed just two victories out of the six games played so far into the 2018/19 season.

The Brazilians were on Wednesday held to a goalless draw by Bloemfontein Celtic and their coach Pitso Mosimane felt his side was unlucky not to have returned from the Free State with the three points.

"We tried, we controlled the game and we did well. It's just sad because Lebo (Lebohang Maboe) scored the goal. We won the game," Mosimane said.

"Mshishi (Themba Zwane) was not interfering with play. He did not even touch the ball. We won the game, it's sad but what can we do."

Meanwhile, the Clever Boys returned to winning ways on Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Cape Town City and also made their way back to the summit of the Premiership table.

Coach Gavin Hunt was impressed with the performance of Scottish striker Simon Murray, who netted a brace in the comfortable victory over the recently crowned MTN8 champions.

"Players coming from Europe have a different mentality. He is getting better at training and I think I have done things right in how I've handled him," Hunt told reporters.

"I also knew that the Cape Town conditions would suit his game. He's an old-style striker, so it was a case of horses for courses.

"But I have two or three types of strikers - and next up we have Sundowns, which will need a different plan. Sundowns have the best squad in the country and we are certainly not going to get as many scoring chances."

Sundowns have a long list of injuries with the likes of Anthony Laffor, Oupa Manyisa and Aubrey Ngoma all sidelined while Daylon Claasen is still out for Wits.
