Maritzburg United v Free State Stars

Maritzburg United will host Free State Stars in an early relegation battle at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday in a match that could be termed as a proverbial "six pointer".

The Team of Choice are rooted to the bottom of the table and need points desperately if they have any hopes of avoiding the drop.

Free State Stars are only two points better off than their opponents an know they can easily be dragged into a relegation dogfight if they do pick up points as soon as possible.

Both teams go into the midweek game on the back of defeats at the weekend with Maritzburg losing 2-0 to Golden Arrows in a KZN derby while Stars went down 2-1 to Wits.

Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori has implored his team-mates to take responsibility for their situation and get things back on track.

Ofori said on the club's website: "Wednesday's game is very important to bounce back.

"It is back to the drawing board, we had a look at the last game, we have to look at the positives, and we need to listen to the coach and do the right things at the right time."

"Stars are very good team, they have a new coach, they have changed the way they play, they start from the back, that tells you the way that the team wants to play.

"They are also in a challenging position. Every game is like a cup final, we just need to focus, now it is about confidence - we need men to fight so we can get out of this position.

"We have been preparing well but we have not been getting the results that we need."

Both teams have new coaches at the helm who will be looking for the first victories at their new clubs.

Maritzburg have brought in Muhsin Ertugral while Free State Stars have decided to hire Serbian Nikola Kavazovic to pull them out of the mire.

The match kicks off at 19:30.
