Jomo pulls a rabbit out the hat

Baroka FC have crashed out of the Nedbank Cup, following their 1-0 defeat to Jomo Cosmos at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

- Masuku scores the game's only goal
- Ezenkosi score their first win in four matches

The result was startling for a number of reasons. Chief among them is the fact that Cosmos ply their trade in the National First Division (NFD), while Baroka have now become a fully fledged Absa Premiership team.

Since the start of the new year Cosmos had breached opposition defences just once, prior to Tuesday night's fixture. This despite playing all of their 2019 matches against second tier opponents.

The team could not have chosen a better night to reverse those fortunes. The team's goal scorer on the evening, Inky Masuku has breached opposition defences just twice in the past two seasons. One of those goals was scored on Tuesday night.

In the 31st minute, Masuku latched onto a delightful through pass from Nigerian attacker Chibuike Ohizu.

Suffice it to say, Masuku's finish was far more clinical than that of Letlhogonolo Kekana, who had a glorious opportunity to actually put the visitors in front earlier on.

He too had been assisted by Ohizu, who produced a stellar play making performance.

Sometimes, these things are just written in the stars. Cosmos are fighting for survival in the NFD, and with nothing to lose they threw the kitchen sink at Baroka Tuesday night.

They also defended as if their lives depended on it. It was their first win of the year.
