Ngezana welcomes Solinas' formation switch

Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana has welcomed Giovanni Solinas' potential plan to change their formation to either a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1.

Following his recent appointment as Chiefs coach, Solinas has been acclimatising himself to taking training sessions at Naturena since Monday. Since then, Ngezana has noticed a major tactical switch from the way the team played last season.

Under former coach Steve Komphela, Amakhosi played with three centre-backs during the 2017/18 campaign, with Ngezana shining in defence. However, they struggled at the other end of the pitch, scoring just 27 goals in the Premiership.

Although Ngezana knows that he will have to prove himself all over again under Solinas, he feels that the tactical change can work well for the team.

"I think with the new formation, it's good for us as players because it's more challenging to play two centre-backs," the 20-year-old said, according to KickOff.

"It's a good challenge for us as players, so that we can always be on our toes. And, also, where there's no pressure there's no diamonds.

"The pressure is there, so that's what's going to keep me pushing hard."

Ngezana made 15 Premiership appearances in 2017/18, scoring one goal as Chiefs finished third, qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup, but missing out on major silverware.
